Patter Dass is a well regarded Norwegian clergyman and poet, who was the rector of this church from 1689 to 1707.
This open globe sculpture marks the latitude of the Arctic Circle, as it was when it was built. As the Circle moves north by 100 mteres or so each year, it is no longer accurate, but is not too far off.
Interestingly, the marker has the Equator and the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, but not the polar circles. Hawkeye trying to hold the globe on his shoulders.
