Barentsberg, Svalbard
Barentsberg is a Russian coal mining settlement on Isfjord, Svalbard, which seems to have been forgotten after the fall of the Iron Curtain. It still mines coal, and probaly has a multitude of stories to tell. It is crumbling, but the spirits of the people appear cheerful enough. They subsist on mining and tourism, with little hope of government help or support. These were taken in 2008, but I believe little has changed since then.
